During last night's debate the President made the following comments about his grandmother:
You know, my grandmother -- some of you know -- helped to raise me. My grandparents did. My grandfather died a while back. My grandmother died three days before I was elected president. And she was fiercely independent. She worked her way up, only had a high school education, started as a secretary, ended up being the vice president of a local bank. And she ended up living alone by choice.
And the reason she could be independent was because of Social Security and Medicare. She had worked all her life, put in this money, and understood that there was a basic guarantee, a floor under which she could not go.
And that's the perspective I bring when I think about what's called entitlements. You know, the name itself implies some sense of dependency on the part of these folks. These are folks who've worked hard, like my grandmother, and there are millions of people out there who are counting on this. h/t Transcripts Editors
Surprisingly, there was a response to this comment on the official KitchenAid Twitter account. It read:
Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president'

I was outraged about this when I read about it this morning. And the outrage hasn't subsided as the day has progressed. Apparently the person who sent this nonsense thought he or she was sending this out on their own personal twitter account. And even though that person's boss has apologized on behalf of KitchenAid for the misuse of the company's official twitter account, it still pisses me off.
I know that the economy is difficult. I also know what would have happened to me if I made an error like this when I was working for a Fortune 50 company. I hope that is what happened to the person that sent this tweet. I find it extremely offensive, and certainly in these economic times KitchenAid can find someone better to represent their brand.
