Brewer and Shipley didn't mean for "One Toke Over the Line" to be a drug anthem but rather a song about going home. Well history has a way of redefining our desired realities. Those of us who consider ourselves progressives have noted the the Drug War has gone on under all the Presidents since Reagan and has made the USA the country with the highest percentage of the population behind bars (possibly second only to South Africa- I need attribution for this statement). There is no disputing that a second Obama term might actually be a time when a "minor" issue with potential risks involved like ending the drug war on Marijuana smokers might actually get some serious consideration. Bill Maher put $1 Million where his mouth is; I confess my own contributions have been CONSIDERABLY less. But when you consider that "Pot felons" are also disenfranchised from voting, holding office, economically deprived and are often racially profiled as well, the road does seem like it's uphill both ways.
I like the Jerry Garcia dedication in this version!
How about this Christian spiritual version!
