From a picture I saw on Twitter:
Republican Congressman [Jason Chaffetz] blames Libya consulate attack on Obama administration, claims there wasn't sufficient security. He's so committed to this notion that he's actually holding hearings on it!
So, imagine my surprise by this morning's exchange...
CNN's Soledad O'Brien: "Is it true that you voted to cut the funding for embassy security?"
Rep. Chaffetz: "Absolutely. Look we have to make priorities and choices in this country."
facepalm
--Angelo Carusone
Here is the glorious exchange on video:
Isn't that something? Like those Republican Senators that scream "where are the jobs" while voting down veteran jobs bills they themselves co-wrote?
Like pro-life Republicans who scream "SAY NO to abortions!" from the mountaintops, yet abhor the free contraceptive policies that lower abortion rates significantly?
Like those billionaire CEOs who decry class warfare, but threaten to fire their employees if a black guy Democrat gets re-elected?
Or like Mitt Romney, who got teary-eyed today about meeting the NAVY SEAL Glen Doherty (killed in Bhengazi last month) at a party years ago, a story Doherty's actual close friend recalls more like this:
"He said it was very comical," Ellefsen said, "Mitt Romney approached him ultimately four times, using this private gathering as a political venture to further his image. He kept introducing himself as Mitt Romney, a political figure. The same introduction, the same opening line. Glen believed it to be very insincere and stale."
The GOP is a party of douchey, cognitively dissonant opportunists. But I digress.
Apparently, this is not the first time Soledad O'Brien has made Chaffetz look like an ass:
Need you further proof that Soledad O'Brien is the best thing to happen to journalism?
UPDATE
Wow. This is pretty bad:
Mother of Slain SEAL Bashes Mitt
The mother of a Navy SEAL who was killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi slammed Mitt Romney on Wednesday for mentioning her son on the campaign trail. At a campaign event in Iowa on Tuesday, Romney said that he once met Glen Doherty, the slain SEAL, at a Christmas party a few years ago and the news of Doherty’s death “broke my heart.” Doherty’s mother, Barbara Doherty, said she doesn’t “trust Romney.” She continued by saying that the Republican “shouldn’t make my son’s death part of his political agenda. It’s wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama.”
The fact that Mitt Romney doesn't have the foresight to respect a grieving mother's sense of dignity amidst such a fresh wound is really something.
