My kids were "forced" to watch the Obama/Rmoney debate because it was given as homework. We turned on the VP debate after we had some laughs watching a DVR of New Girl, we all love Zooey. So, why do I feel Better? In brief, summary and paraphrase, this is how it went for the 10 minutes we watched together:
Daughter (13) : Wow... who's the one on the right?
Son (15) : That's the republican, Paul Ryan
D : Yeah, that's what I thought, I can tell from the tie colors... I don't like him.
S : Me neither, I hate that smile.
D : I know!
Together: Creeper!!!! (laughing)
S : Biden looks like a cool uncle.
D : I really don't like Ryan , that smile scares me ... He's lying about the tax cuts isn't he... (Ryan was digging himself a hole about the tax cuts)
Me: Yes, I think so.. (going into diatribe about $5Trillion not being paid for)
Kids began musing about how stupid people must be to fall for that jerk. I tried to keep it respectful and explain "different priorities, deficit vs. services, pandering to wingnuts forced unreasonable positions" etc... but it was hard since I really agreed with them and they know about Ayn Rand
S : Well, I think he looks like if I turned my back on him he'd stab me
D : I think he'd just kidnap us and sell us to pay for his "tax cuts"
S : I'm glad he's fighting back, let's watch Obama beat on Romney next time, OK?
