Watching the Sunday morning talk shows I saw an unspoken narrative that ought to be a coup de grace for the Democrats. You could sum up the election like this:
A lot of people consider George W. Bush to be a miserable failure, but I think he was wildly successful, that is he got nearly everything he wanted to get passed by congress. I can't think of any major legislation that he wanted that got blocked. And in 2008 we all saw firsthand what happens when we reap the results of deregulation and trickle down economic policy. The only explanation for the abject failure of Bush's policies is that those policies were an abject failure.
Joe Biden hit it out of the ballpark when he threw his hands up in the air and said the GOP thinks the debt just fell from the sky.
And Andrew Sullivan reloaded the bases when he asked what Mitt Romney would do differently than George W. Bush.
The Congress during Obama's term has essentially said, we can't afford any mistakes, so let's only let Obama's Democrats do just a little of what they want, in case they do more harm than good. To this end, they have set a record for the number of filibusters.
Shortly after Obama took office, job losses hit a nadir in March of 2009. Since then the slope of the lob losses graph has been positive. Unemployment finally dropped below 8% this month.
Governor Bob McDonnell repeatedly said there isn't enough growth.
Republicans are the ones who tempered Obama's policies, and now all they can whine about is how the Democrats haven't cleaned up their mess fast enough.
Now roll the tape of Joe Biden's "just get out of the way" rant.
