This'll be quick. Two new polls out today, right? One from Washington Post/ABC News:
Likely voters in the new poll split 49 percent for Obama to 46 percent for Romney, basically unmoved from the poll two weeks ago, just before the two candidates met in Denver for their first debate. On topic after topic, the survey portrays an electorate that remains deeply divided along partisan lines and locked in its views.
And another from
Politico/GWU:
A new POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll of likely voters puts Obama ahead of Romney 49 percent to 48 percent, a statistical tie and the same as the week before.
Ok, fine. But flip over to CBS and it's a
whole different story:
Polls: On eve on second debate, Romney on the rise
...Among 923 likely voters polled, 49 percent back Romney and 46 support the president. The outcome is similar to the last Washington Post/ABC poll from two weeks ago and is also within the 3.5 percent margin or error...
Another survey, by Politico/George Washington University, shows Romney with an increase in his favorability rating...Romney enjoys the support of 49 percent of the 1,000 respondents polled compared to 48 percent who are backing the president, which is the same as last week's Politico poll.
So CBS is really excited about Romney's rise, so much that they
reversed the outcome of both polls. You decide--an attempt to game public opinion or just incredibly sloppy journalism? I mean, do these people not have editors?
Edit: the journalist who wrote the story responds:
"Leigh Ann Caldwell @LACaldwellDC
@Cara_Rob thanks for pointing out. it's still within margin of error. "
