The poll called land lines and cellphones of 571 respondents and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percent. The survey was conducted Oct. 23-25.
The automated survey found President Barack Obama leading his Republican challenger Mitt Romney within the margin of error at 49 percent to 46 percent and 2 percent saying some other candidate. About four percent were undecided.
“The poll shows candidates for president have different strengths,”said Tafoya. “President Obama has a solid lead for voters under the age of 65. However, former Governor Romney leads with those over the age of 65. This is a similar trend to the voting in 2008 when then candidate Obama had a smaller margin over Senator McCain among older voters.”
