I posted this inspirational voting rant (found below the fold) on Facebook. I thought to share it here.
(I actually voted yesterday, but I didn't have time to diary then.)
There were supporters for both sides outside the early voting location. Someone had a truck with "Vote Godly Values" on the side. That pissed me off and made me vote harder. With a vengeance. I'm a very religious person , but that kind of messaging has no place in America. One kind lady asked me if I had a Dem sample ballot. I responded that I had one. I'd found the sample ballot in my front door the day before, though I'd already printed one, I used the fancy, official one. It had Obama's face on it. Anyway, here's the meat.
I voted today. I voted because...
I believe gay Americans are entitled to the same rights as all Americans.
I don't believe Mexicans and other immigrants are a problem to be solved.
I believe ingrained racist attitudes need to be defeated.
I believe wealthy Americans should pay their fair share of taxes.
I believe I am entitled to as much control over my body as a man has over his.
I believe RAPE is immoral.
I believe in the separation of church and state--no one should thrust their religious beliefs on others.
I believe in government regulated social benefits for the elderly.
I believe in government support of college students and the poor.
I believe in the power of science. To deny the hard truths and the changing realities of this world is a greater affront to God than liberalism is.
Above all, I believe the laws of this land should work for ALL Americans.
Can you guess who I voted for?
