. . . and Mitt Romney's just gotta steal.
Despite being asked repeatedly by the producers of Friday Night Lights to quit using the show's catch phrase, "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose," despite being pilloried by "Lights" producer/star Connie Brittan in a USAToday column for his hijacking of the phrase, Mitt won't quit.
Today in Tampa,
He closed by referring to a fictional football team on a television show that touches a sign before going out on the field. The sign reads: "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose."
"I'm convinced that's true. Clear eyes here in Florida, full hearts. We can't lose," he said. "We're going to take back America."
The Romney campaign's efforts to co-opt the popular show's motto has been diaried here already, along with the numerous musicians who have had to demand Mitt, Inc. cease using their songs.
Unlike many of those musical lifts, which the campaign stopped using when artists complained, the "Clear Eyes" swipe is just too good to let go, it seems.
To my knowledge, no one in the campaign has attempted to justify the continued use of other people's intellectual property over the owners' objections. How can you, really? "It's such a great motto, we just couldn't resist?" "I want it, so it's mine?"
How is this bunch any different than the shit who jacked my car stereo?
