With the lights out for days, and travel treacherous, many of you affected by Sandy were stuck indoors. Once you are safely tucked in, with candles and blankets ready, you turn to other necessities: like food. If you're like many folks, grocery shopping is a last minute ordeal, something you plan on the sly on your way home from work or soccer games. As hunger pangs announce your empty stomach's needs, you venture to the refrigerator or pantry. Which leads us to ask, "What's In Your Pantry?"
If you're like many residents of New York, including Jamie Sanders, normally you are a pretty healthy eater. But Sanders found herself venturing out to her local grocery store to pickup a few items. But all she found left on the shelves were canned goods and Oreos. Oreos with red cream and a snowman on top, accompanied by chips and salsa, boxed macaroni and cheese, and beer.
I lived in Virginia in '93 and '96 when the big snowstorms crippled the East Coast. We had about a foot of snow and several inches of ice on top of that. With power out for more than a week, we put our essentials like wine and milk just outside our dining room window. Having a gas stove, I could at least cook, so I prepared all the frozen meat that was thawing in the freezer. It was kind of an adventure to see what you could make out of the ingredients and perishables that you have left over. It's surprising what you can find buried deep in the back of your food closet or pantry. So, I ask you, What's In Your Pantry? this Mojo Friday?
On with the games!!
Mojo Friday Guidelines
1) If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to receive mojo you have to give mojo. It's only good mojo manners.)
2) Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
3) You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
4) You don't have to comment to recommend.
5) You can't steal my idea (right, like that ain't goin' to happen)
6) Please, no pictures or YouTubes until after 300 comments. Now, after 100, use a little common courtesy and be responsible in the number.
7) Mojo mojo mojo mojo, mojo mojo mojo.
8) TexDem (that's me) is not bound by the guidelines. Heh
