Today is a happy day, filled with relief and anticipation for the Dems. We have preserved the presidency, and increased (and improved) our strength in the Senate. This was due to great work by OFA and the many involved volunteers (and the poor Republican candidates). We have withstood an amazing influx of money. We have survived the most dishonest Republican presidential campaign in my life. We have overcome many instances of Republican interference with the basic right to vote. We won today, overcoming all of this.
We did not, though, make much headway in the House. Fewer than ten seats will be gained, I think. We needed 25. This is at the lowest end of our expectations. Even so, we got rid of some real bad players on the Republican side, like Allan West of Florida and Joe (You lie) Walsh of Il.
I don't know yet how we did at the state level, but today was a good day for us. Now I am concerned about 2014.
Remember what happened with low turnout in 2010, and the disastrous effects on the House and State Governors and legislatures, we can't let that happen again. More after the orange squiggle.
We need to keep organized for 2014.
We must keep the strong ground game going, and even improve it.
We will need help from the Obama team to do this, and their leadership.
We need to win back Governors in places like Florida.
We need to win back the House.
We need to win back state legislatures.
We need to win at every level possible even Dog Catcher.
My guess is that the Republicans and their money backers will be out in force again, trying to buy what they think will be a low turnout election. We need to make them wrong. Again. Like we made them wrong this time. The way to beat money is with voters, with organization, with the efforts to add new voters, and get existing voters to the polls.
What can we do to start on the 2014 victory now? Commemts? Suggestions? Ways we can organize now, while the spirit is still strong?
Now is the time to start the work for the 2014 midterms. Now,
