Just a quick note for anyone who has taken or is taking Psych 101. You are getting a real-time look at the GOP going through Kubler-Ross' five stages of grief: Anger, Denial, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.
Depending on which member of the GOP you look at you can see at least one of the first four on display. Now we just have to wait and see who in the Republican establishment can get to acceptance first, which is going to take courage. Whoever does get to acceptance first will have a great opportunity to become true leaders of a smaller but more significant opposition party.
Americans reward courage, whether its physical, spiritual or political. Get 20 or so house members willing to break with the party and work with the Democrats and we can really get things rolling. If you're a Republican who wants to get things done, then communicate that to your representatives in congress. Help them through their grieving process.
There is a lot of power to shape the debate and create change when you're working from opposition (just ask the Occupy movement, who totally shaped this election cycle). I really hope someone on the Republican side of the aisle has the courage to get to acceptance and work to make America whole.
And Pssst. Democrats... Yes, Schadenfreude is nice. But we can't let our obvious joy in their discomfort get too out of hand. We still have a lot to get done.
Break's over. What's next?
