A message to all quitters: You don't have to avoid GUS if your latest attempt to quit didn't work out. We won't give you a bad time and we consider the attempted quits as practice for the real quit.
The annual Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society is two weeks from today. It is a great time to kick that nasty habit of cigarette smoking and you have two weeks to prepare yourself for the quit. If a Thursday is not the ideal day for you to quit, quit on the weekend and call it your own quit day. The main thing is to quit and stay quit. You know you want to so quit and visit our friendly GUS diaries to tell us how you are doing. There are a bunch of great cheerleaders here who have been through it.
You have two weeks to get ready. Imagine your self nicotine free and make it so. Imagine a Thanksgiving dinner where you can taste the food with enhanced taste and smell abilities. Imagine going through this coming winter without having to huddle outside sucking down a stink stick to feed your addiction.
You have two weeks to get ready and you can come here for help.
The Great American Smokeout has some fantastic links to all things quitting smoking. Please check it out as well as our wonderful GUS library loaded with information to help you quit. (For some reason, my link to the GUS library is not working now)

We need new diarists. The regulars are doing a wonderful job but the second or third generation of GUSsacks are late in taking over. Please sign up in the BUTT can below and take an open slot or two. I even bet that if you need a time slot that is occupied by one of the regulars, they would be happy for the help and give you that slot. You do not need to worry about your diary being perfect. We are easy, and desperate.
Have you had some experience with the effects of smoking, and want to write a GUS diary or host an open thread? Please sign up in the Butt Can (Tip Jar), and name the day and time that works for you (AM, PM, late-night, early-bird...). Weekly GUS Diary Schedule (regular diarists featured in bold) is below; look at all those nice open slots just calling your name!

If you can spare a few hours, please consider hosting GUS! Not sure where to start? Just ask for help in the Butt Can (Tip Jar). Seriously, it doesn't have to include specific elements or require all sorts of fabulous diary formatting skills. The regulars will make sure stuff gets carried over from diary to diary, so if you want to just tell your story or provide an open thread and host for a few hours, that's cool too.
