Below is video of a protest against Macy's decision to partner with Donald Trump. The protest was held today outside of Macy's Herald Square store in New York City.
At the 2:00 mark in the video, organizer Angelo Carusone gives an interview detailing why they are out there in protest of Macy's.
So the major reason why I did this was that you know I think Trump has engaged in a rather significant pattern of over the past few months of odious, contemptible behavior. And specifically, I came across this letter from Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren to Donald Trump back in August. In it he says "don't give up the real estate business yet, but we are developing a meaningful fashion business with your brand." And to me, Trump's brand is consequence-free bullying and chicanery. It's not the kind of thing that you build a business on top of or incentivize and reward. So, I thought that it would be appropriate to put up a petition asking Macy's to reconsider their decision to build a business on top of that. It's inconsistent and it doesn't reflect the magic of Macy's. And I want them to understand that, and obviously I'm not alone. A lot people felt similar to me in terms of their disappointment when they found out that, of Macy's plans to develop a plan like Donald Trump's. It's just inconsistent. So that's really what it's about.
Direct actions like this will put needed pressure on Macy's to ditch The Donald, particularly as we head into their most critical time of year.
If you haven't done so already, I urge you to go to this website and sign the petition to Macy's telling them to Dump Trump.
Update: I want to link to Denise Oliver Velez's excellent diary from last Sunday Dear Macy's, I'm cancelling my charge account. If you missed it, do go read it.
I thought it was also worth mentioning that as of this moment, the Dump Trump petition has reached 662,236 signatures. Their goal is to reach 675,000. At this rate, I think they can safely up their goal.
