So I have my nifty Android news reader app set to provide, along with other sources of political news, headlines from our favorite nemesis, RedState.
Since I'm unfamiliar with their diary-posting mechanism, I'm going to assume that member diaries that appear in my little app are "front-paged," since my Daily Kos section indeed shows me what's front-paged here. In other words, this must be some important shit they're saying.
One particular headline today stood out, replicated in the title of the diary you now read, but again for emphasis:
I Think Sometimes We Are Truly A Stupid Movement
With a title like that, and since I actually agreed with the diarist at this point, I couldn't resist exploring further the mind of such an astute member of the RedState community.
After some introductory rambling about Happy Thanksgivings, how he's not going to question the effectiveness of political movements (read: Tea Party/conservative movement), how wealthy donors invested their funds (read: flushed millions of dollars down the crapper), and how ridiculously ineffective their patriotic bus tours were, he starts getting deep:
You see, I have a little theory on why we as a movement, and Republicans lose: because we’re stupid. No, I take that back. We could actually stand to be a little more stupid and do the obvious. I think we sometimes are too smart for our own good.
I think I'm beginning to like this guy. There's no one I'd rather have providing featured commentary for the Anti-Kos than someone who's so smart they can't figure out whether they're smart or not.
Then the lightbulb really comes on:
So here’s a thought: let’s do the obvious moving forward and actually commit to doing some fundamentals of politics.
Which, the diarist goes on to point out, would actually consist of
emulating the Obama campaign, even going so far as to link a Politico article by Jim Messina in his post. Gotta take props in whatever form we can get them, I suppose.
Moving right along, we have the wink to SuperCandidate™ Mitt Romney, complete with Obama-style "Fired Up" reference:
There are other factors in winning. I know that. Like having a candidate people can get fired up about.
Which leads back to that "lets copy Obama" concept he touched on:
But that aside, unless we commit to real grassroots and GOTV, and by that I mean knocking and talking on doors, and having personal contact with the voters, and not just in the last month or two of the election season, we’re not going to win.
Because an OFA-style operation will surely compensate for this:
People will say we must have a better message. I like our message, and quite frankly if we would tap into the conservative populism message of, “We hate Big (government, corporations, banks, etc.),” we can and will win. There is nothing wrong with our message. There is everything wrong with our approach and tactics.
Ha Ha Ha Ha
He likes their message. Of course he does. He doesn't think anything's wrong with it.
Once again, I agree. I wouldn't touch a thing. A little repackaging change of tactics and, so he concludes...
All is not lost for us [...]

These people just won't ever get it, but you know what? It doesn't even frustrate me anymore. This election finally put to rest that feeling of near-rage I used to feel when hearing the idiocy of these people, replacing it instead with a hearty
lololololololololololol
(If you really, really
must.)
