As we near crunch time on respecting the recent election results, how can we deter Democrats from defecting?
A. Key context:
1. Primary challenges to defecting Democrats will need to be mounted ASAP, when their defections are still open wounds.
2. The more (and earlier) money is mobilized against potential defectors, the more they will be deterred from actually defecting, and the stronger and earlier progressive challengers can be recruited against actual defectors.
C. To do now:
In order to immediately build a credible threat of strong early challenges, Dkos and/or other organizations could organize:
1. now: solicitation of pledges (and immediate contributions) of cash (with a cool thermometer keeping track of totals), and
2. a month into the new term: a vote by contributors to select the most (or first, second and third most) egregious defector.
If 3 are selected, then funds could be allocated per a pre-agreed formula.
For example:
spend the first 300K to oppose the most egregious;
spend the next 200K to oppose the second most egregious;
spend the next 100K to oppose the third most egregious, and
spend the remainder at a 3:2:1 ratio.
