I started this just before Mass announced for Warren..... The internet being what it is half a world away, it has taken me quite some time to get to get this posted... Give me a break lol anyway, its a short one, i'm too happy for coherent thought.
I’m a registered Republican who grew up in a very conservative part of
western North Carolina. You couldn’t purchase alcohol in the county
where I grew up until the 90’s. There’s a church on every corner, and
a gun in every home. I still believe in hope. I remember the KKK
staging a march down Main Street, and a conversation with a former
primary school teacher where she referred eto blacks as “those people”,
and I still believe in hope. I remember classmates going to school
hungry, and a church that bought me a pair of shoes, and I still
believe in hope. There was a grandmother who I loved dearly, crying
out in the night for someone to help her. She died in a filthy bedroom
because she couldn’t afford decent health care and I still believe in
hope. There’s a father whose body failed him, a cripple before the age
of 30, a government I grew up resenting because it turned its back on
a man who needed help, and I still believe in hope. There’s the under
funded school system where librarians paid for new books out of their
own pockets and I still believe in hope.
Ok folks that's it.... I'm halfway around the world now.... Between the scotch and the happy, I can't type anymore. Just remember, I believe in hope.
