Its true, in fact he just became a proud father of two baby girl HeroRATs!
From their Facebook page
We have baby news! One recent rainy morning, we received a bit of sunshine from a pair of proud parents-papa Obama and mama Shana. Shana gave birth to a lovely set of twin female pups. There were plenty of celebratory bananas and peanuts all around!
The pups are healthy and active but spend most of their time nursing, sleeping and bonding with mama. She let us into her kennel so we could share a
few photos with you all while the baby ratties were napping. And rest up they should, because they have a lot to look forward to. The HeroRATs who have been deployed or are slated for deployment to APOPO’s programs outside of Tanzania, have left more than enough room for upcoming, younger recruits.
In a month these pups will be ready to start the very first stages of HeroRAT training. They will be introduced to their trainers during the socialization process, which includes handling and adaption to noises and different spaces. The trainers say they are excited to add some fresh, furry, faces to the team; the twins have already won them over!
Any guesses on what type of HeroRAT role they will be chosen for- TB screening or landmine detection? Join us in congratulating the happy family.
If you don't know, I have been a advocate of these amazing little rodents for a long time, even adopted one as a Christmas gift for my nephews. Cost 5 Euros a month (about $7).
My adopted HeroRAT, Mojo (Mojo was born on Sep 11, 2011)
Unfortunately, Mojo was also the one to inform me that my first HeroRAT I adopted, Zeko, had passed a way.
Ziko. RIP little buddy.
But Mojo has picked up the slack and is sniffing out landmines like a champ.
About HeroRATs
Welcome to HeroRATs headquarters!
HeroRATs are saving lives, sniffing out dangers such as landmines and disease. We are true heroes, working hand-in-hand with humans to create safer communities and a better world. A fully-trained HeroRAT can identify landmines quickly and efficiently, or can sniff out deadly pulmonary tuberculosis faster than traditional laboratory microscopy. Not only that, we work for peanuts!
In short, HeroRATs provide a simple, innovative solution to some of the complex global problems facing humankind today. By working together, we can save even more lives and limbs.
HeroRATs is a public campaign to raise awareness about APOPO's work. APOPO's mission is to train and disseminate sniffer rats to save human lives by detecting landmines and disease.
Anywho, just a birth announcement for a couple of Heroes and their support team.
