Rush Limbaugh must like the word "orgasm". He's used it well over a hundred times in his radio show. Prurience sells, and Rush has that commodity in abundance.
According to Limbaugh, liberals have orgasms, the media has orgasms, the Democrats have orgasms, Obama supporters have orgasms. Limbaugh sometimes equates orgasms with impotency by way of gratuitous dig. And Limbaugh doesn't just make such crude statements; his website subsequently promotes them. This mean-spirited putdown was offered in a list of stand-alone Rush quotes: "Those savages that make up the Obama base are fit to be tied. He had to get them back, and the one way to do that is to go out and savage us. That's what they love. That's what they get off on. That is their orgasm. Because these people can't find willing mates."
Curious that after three failed marriages and no children, Limbaugh associates the ability to find a "willing mate" with moral success. But Limbaugh translates most everything into some sort of sexual equivalent. Rush doesn't always use the "orgasm" term as a generic expression of joy; frequently, he descends into crude vulgarity. For example, he recently mused about "Chris Matthews, while wearing an athletic supporter to hide the bulge behind the desk on the anchor chair, the seat there at MSNBC, just having a verbal orgasm over Bill Clinton's speech." Such coarse commentary is a frequent occurrence on your public airwaves, at least during the Rush Limbaugh show.
more orgasm, and more Rush after the jump
Limbaugh's most recent employment of the "orgasm" term refers to Democrats and taxes:
RUSH: Obama wants to go over the cliff. I was watching Fox during the break and the guy that runs Real Clear Politics was on, and he said something that a lot of people in Washington are saying. It's hard to believe that Obama would want to go over the cliff and start his second term with a new recession and massive unemployment. Look at the problems that that would present him in accomplishing everything he wants. I understand people thinking this way, but I really have thought all along you cannot look at Barack Obama as a standard, typical American or Washington politician. He doesn't have the same concerns. You got all these analysts who naturally think that presidents care about reducing the debt, care about their legacy, care about making sure that the economy grows. Where's the evidence that Obama cares about any of this? If this were his first term and people were talking about this kind of stuff, I could understand it. We have four years of evidence that he doesn't care about any of that. We have four years of evidence to suggest that it is entirely proper, and in fact it may be wise, it may be intelligent to look at Obama through the prism of cynicism.
So you say, "Okay, why would he want to go over the cliff?" Well, what happens when we go over the cliff? A Democrat orgasm happens. Taxes go up for everybody. That's nirvana to these people. Taxes go up on everybody on January 1st, in all kinds of ways: income, payroll, Obamacare, taxes go up for everybody. And then, after that, guess what Obama gets to do? He gets to call a national speech to the nation and blame the Republicans for it, and then come out for tax cuts. He knows as well as you do that the Inside the Beltway traditional analysts will look at that and say, "Brilliant move. All presidents want to cut taxes. All presidents want more disposable income." It's a crock, but he knows that they're gonna look at him, and he's gonna get the benefit, by the way, of being looked at the, analyzed as a traditional politician while he's out there doing everything he can to back door nationalize American businesses and transform this country from capitalism to socialism. What better way could he do that, let's go over the cliff, everybody's taxes go, and there's an added bonus. The second most orgasmic thing that could happen for Democrats is the defense budget gets cut. Well, that would happen, too. So you've got uncontrolled joy. You have limitless joy for the Democrat Party going over the cliff. You've got tax increases for everybody, automatically, without anybody signing anything. [emphasis added]

Personally, I hadn't noticed Obama "doing everything he can to back door nationalize American businesses and transform this country from capitalism to socialism." But then, Limbaugh's understanding of socialism is at odds with the rest of civilization.
In dealing with the so-called fiscal cliff, Limbaugh advocates brinkmanship to Republican negotiators:
RUSH: My point is Obama wants the cliff. But let's pretend that I'm wrong. And let's say that he really doesn't want to go over the cliff. Let's say that he really doesn't really want a recession in his second term. Let's say that I'm dead wrong. Then the way to handle that, the way to call his bluff on this is to not negotiate with him and leave it totally up to him what happens.
Very publicly walk away from the talks so that whatever happens vis-a-vis the cliff is perceived to happen -- well, the real point will be to flush Obama out. Find out. I would suggest to people who really believe Obama is concerned about his second term and his legacy, he doesn't want a recession, the only way to flush that out is to come dangerously close to allowing it all to happen, and the way you do that is by pulling out of the negotiations and offer no resistance. My only point is if the Republicans offer no resistance to what Obama wants, we'll find out just how willing he is to take the country over the cliff. [emphasis added]

Limbaugh was also in the news over
Time Magazine's person of the year nominations.
RUSH: The one thing that Obama is known for, this War on Women. If they want to claim a mandate, I guess they could on that, but giving away free contraception -- Snerdley, have you heard this? TIME Magazine puts out their short list for Person of the Year. And among the people on it is Sandra Fluke. Now, not something I'm proud of here, folks. I must be blatantly honest. Nobody would know who she is if it weren't for me. If anybody is gonna be named Person of the Year on that basis, it ought to be me. It's not an honor that I would appreciate because it represents a little bit of a screw-up, but the fact of the matter is that she's even on the list. [emphasis added]

Nothing inordinately pompous about Rush in this self-congratulatory commentary. Patting yourself on the back is OK, you see, if some aspect of your commentary is self-deprecating. Of course it is nice to know that slandering a college student, being seen as having launched the "war on women",
being partly responsible for the pending demise of much of the radio industry, and
being blamed by other Republicans for having lost the election while
giving the Democrats a new champion is just "a little bit of a screw-up."
OK, just a little bit pompous. Rush closed out with:
RUSH: Snerdley just said to me, "You know, you're missing the point on TIME Magazine putting Sandra Fluke as a potential Person of the Year on the short list."
I said, "What do you mean, I'm pissing the point?" 'Cause what I said was that nobody'd know who she is if it weren't for me. If you're gonna make her Person of the Year you gotta make me co-Person of the Year for making her Person of the Year. It's not a proud moment, don't misunderstand.
Snerdley said, "You don't understand. She's not on this list because they care about what she did and what she says and what she believes or any of that, that's not why. She's only on that short list," Snerdley says, "because that's the closest they think they've ever gotten to taking you out, and whoever, if somebody ever comes along and takes you out, TIME Magazine's gonna make 'em the Person of All Time, not just the year."
I have to confess, folks, and I don't think about myself very often, but I have to confess that Snerdley may have a point there. He may be exactly right.
