Nobody gets rich working for a living.
If the opportunity to become wealthy is indeed a part of the American Dream then there ought to be a right not to work; to have the leisure to think of a great idea that benefits all humanity forever more; something like toothpicks, mousetraps, toilet paper, or beer. Machines should work, people should invent machines.
Since the first person noted that the mash of foul smelling fermented grain the dog was lapping was making it behave funny and imagined that getting people to drink it would be a great gag to try on the rest of the clan somebody has always been out there inventing a better beer... or at least the bottle, label and advertising that market it.
Now if having the big brain were to replace having the big house or the enormous yacht or the huge tits as a status symbol that wouldn't be fair or equal in any regard because you can't change the genes you were born with and thus ought to appeal to Plutocrat Republicans.
What we need is something that requires neither money not brains, just a desire to live in a world that isn't six degrees warmer.
I'm for a right not to work.
Anyone who has read Bernard Malthus or Kurt Vonnegut or James Hansen, should be aware that time is short, most things are already being made by machine. What people do is either consume the machine made product and pollute the earth, with its broken carcase or bottle, or attempt to acquire more product they can consume.
We have built our idiocracy on working for a living.
We pollute our earth, air water and fire causing climate change on the only planet we have to call home. We endanger species including our own with extinction. We observe rising temperatures, dying oceans, storm surges flooding cities even as we stand in lines to buy more gas to burn in our cars and put more carbon in the atmosphere commuting to our jobs in our cities about to be drowned.
Working for a living just makes the problem worse.
