The whole nomination process has descended into farce.
This time I am laying it at the door of the President, and his potential nominee and if you want to find out why, and a possible solution that will make heads explode, we need to go sub-squiggle
It's not often I lay the blame for political strife in this country at the door of the President.
The atmosphere he has had to work in is so toxic that it is quite unprecedented. He has little real legislative power, and when the opposition has only the agenda of stopping him rather than presenting an alternative view for America, it must be difficult to accomplish anything at all.
On this occasion I do feel that allowing two senile old gits to set the agenda is something that could have been avoided.
If the President wanted Susan Rice, then he should have appointed her as soon as Mr "Get Off My Lawn" opened his big fat gob on the subject. There, done it, go away!
I admire and respect Barack Obama for the manner in which he defended Susan Rice, but what happened next was ridiculous. We have had four years knowing that the rich. old and very dumb white guys will not stop. They blather on endlessly and care not one jot what comes out of their mouths if there is a Fox News microphone handy.
John McCain and Lindsay Graham are too busy damaging their own legacies to notice the harm they are doing to the country, and all because they are cowards. It's sad, but I ran out of compassion for them a long time ago.
So ... a solution.
My solution would be to stick my middle digit up and wave it in the general direction of Capitol Hill. If you don't want an eminently qualified candidate because she is black, or a woman, or appointing her will stop your little scheme to get a special election in Massachusetts, that is not doing the best thing for America, it is doing the best thing for the Republican Party.
So ... don't nominate a Secretary of State! None, nada, we can manage without.
But ... But ... But ... What about those important duties? The foreign policy, the security services the, the, the ... All that good stuff Hillary has been doing, and has been roundly praised for doing?
I hear you, we need someone doing those things so ....
Let Joe Biden do the job!
He is qualified, he doesn't need to be confirmed and his only real current job is one we really don't much need.
Give the job to Joe. He doesn't need a title because he already has a pretty decent one, and he doesn't need to be nominated. All he needs is to be given the nod.
There may be technical difficulties I am unaware of. What I do know is that such matters never stopped George Bush, so why break those habits now?
Give The Job to Joe!
