Daily Kos is tremendously important and valuable to me. I want to say that right up front. This site has long been a superb resource for me. I started coming here almost a decade ago, and it's a place I come to learn what's going on -- often before it's reported elsewhere -- to gain new insights into what's going on, and to challenge my own thinking on what's going on. Not bad for a website that's available free of charge. I'll get back to that free of charge thing.
But not only do I come here for the information, for the what, of DailyKos, I also come for the people I've met and continue to meet here. The DailyKos community is now a part of my life, a part I treasure. In particular, my involvement with the Black Kos community gave me the opportunity, thanks to its leaders, to be a part of a Netroots Nation panel that was profoundly meaningful to me. And participating in the twice weekly Black Kos community posts is something I look forward to every few days. I encourage any of you with an interest in race in America, in learning more about African-American history and culture, or black-themed issues globally, to please come on by our "porch".
I was honored to be asked to write a post appealing to you all to subscribe and/or donate to Daily Kos. So that's what I'm doing here, asking you to subscribe and/or donate.
I have so much respect for the work done by the staff and by all of us who post and comment to make this site the valued resource it is. I've been a subscriber for a while now, and I've gotten far more from the site than I've paid into it.
For many of you, this economy means you don't have money to waste, or even to spend on something worthwhile. For those who can spare a small donation, that's great and it matters. If you're fortunate enough to be a bit more "liberal" (!) with your cash, then please consider a subscription, either for yourself or, if you've already got one, consider giving a gift subscription to someone on the site to whom you want to show some love. And yes, that's about as much humor as I've got (liberal is a double entendre, get it?!!-Hardee, har, har), maybe enough to produce a barely noticeable back-tilt of your head as you silently acknowledge my mild cleverness. As the title freely admits, I'm not this guy!
But what Fishgrease and I, and I suspect all the rest of you reading this, have in common is that we love coming to this site. So please, one last time I'll ask you to subscribe and/or donate to Daily Kos. Isn't this what the war on Christmas is all about? ;)
Seriously though, I hope all of you have a wonderful, joyous, and healthy holiday season!
PS-Boo-hoo Boehner!
