A lot's been made of what went wrong in yesterday's horrific shooting in Webster, New York. Most notably, how a convicted felon with a history of mental problems was allowed to get his hands on not just one, but THREE guns. But lost in that is the fact that because this guy apparently decided to lure firemen into a trap (and ended up killing two of them and wounding two more), six families aren't able to spend Christmas at home.
After William Spengler opened fire on the crews responding to the blaze--a blaze that he apparently started, the firefighters couldn't get back to fighting it until 11 am. In that time, six more houses went up in flames. So far, I haven't been able to find anything on whether they're OK--can the western and central New Yorkers here track down something?
I wasn't planning on posting today, but I've been looking for ways to help them. For now, the best thing I've been able to find is the Red Cross disaster relief fund. It doesn't just help arrange housing for major disasters, but smaller-scale ones too. Click here to donate.
