retro and without regard for borders
here is hoping you and yours are safe and well
It snowed today in southtown
in the middle of the sunbelt I prepare for an early dawn spreading ice melt
for those bankers and wage slaves of same
that must come and go from the building that never sleeps
save for the few hours we door mice
spread our Christmas cheer
I think it would be a good thing to put up the lyrics. I think Mr. Davies would appreciate that. I know I would.
somewhat abridged... mostly took out the chorus, tried to remember the musical lessons from the past.
Songwriters: DAVIES, RAY
When I was small I believed in santa claus
Though I knew it was my dad
And I would hang up my stocking at christmas
Open my presents and I'd be glad
But the last time I played father christmas
I stood outside a department store
A gang of kids came over and mugged me
And knocked my reindeer to the floor
Chorus
They said:
Father christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys.
Well beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys
Don't give my brother a steve austin outfit
Don't give my sister a cuddly toy
We don't want a jigsaw or monopoly money
We only want the real mccoy
Chorus
But give my daddy a job cause he needs one
Hes got lots of mouths to feed
But if youve got one, I'll have a machine gun
So I can scare all the kids down the street
Chorus
Have yourself a merry merry christmas
Have yourself a good time
But remember the kids who got nothin
While you're drinkin down your wine
Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
Well beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread, so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys
And this one gives me chills every time. I ought to hear it every year. It is good for me to hear it. It grounds me and goads me. I saved it up until now.
In a very few hours the world wakes up again. In fact it sleeps not. Some of us will see the dawn with eyes that have not known sleep for a day. I am glad they are out there. I am glad there is a cop and a fireman and a nurse and a plumber and the electrician and all the other souls out on this night and into the dawn. I will be joining them shortly.
and with tears in my eyes
i shit you not
you think i can do this without feeling it?
i bring this last one.
without comment.
