Now that the election is over and I'm settled in to enjoy the next four years, I find that I have time on my hands. I am a disabled, retired Viet Nam veteran and was thinking this morning about writing something that was unusual, unusual in the sense that I refuse to comment on "fiscal cliffs", Cliff Robertson, the white cliffs of Dover or anything remotely related to cliffs. I'm sure that "fiscal cliff" will be the phrase of the year as voted on by the MSM, especially since they coined the stupid expression themselves.
Every Thanksgiving, and other Holidays, I make my annual pilgrimage to the cemeteries, where family is laid to rest. Our cemetery is one of the oldest in the area, with headstones dating back to the mid to late 1800's. What is fascinating besides the age of the buried and how the headstones fared over all this time, is the epitaphs on the tombstones.
When one has been laid to rest in a cemetery, the placement of a tombstone or marker is the final stage of closure which identifies their grave. This is the time to communicate the significance of the person buried there. Most popular epitaphs are religious ones or ones taken from scripture. Regardless of what is written, one thing remains constant: epitaphs are a meaningful way to give respect to the deceased.
Some of the epitaphs are:
" Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal "
" Gone but not forgotten "
" Entered into Rest "
Very simple but surely holds some meaning for the family of the deceased. I researched others that certainly have a distinct meaning:
" Death in the West"
Here lies Lester Moore

I thought that I would modernize things a bit and come up with some possible and maybe probable Tombstone Epitaphs for current personalities. For example:
Mit Romney: " Veni, Vidi, Perditus "
( I came, I saw, I lost)
Rudy Guiliani: " Mr. Noun, Verb, 9-11 "
John Boehner: " There isn't a barroom floor he wouldn't sweep
Crying all the time until he did sleep."
Sara Palin: " Duh "
I am still having some fun with this and although cemeteries, epitaphs, rememberances are solemn and should be, there are times to have a bit of levity and my epitaphs for some people are what I think of when I think of them.
Perhaps you can have some fun too and come up with some of your own.
