Oh, Mitt. It seems his campaign can't do anything right. You know those ads where Mitt is cruising around telling Michigan voters how gosh darn much he loves American cars?
That car he's driving?
Yes, as the sleuths at Blue Mass Group report, Romney's whip is a foreign-born Chrysler, manufactured in Brampton, Ontario and imported to Detroit so that it can be imported "from" Detroit. There was a minor kerfuffle over this car when the Made In The USA Foundation filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission after Chrysler launched its "Imported From Detroit" ad campaign, alleging false advertising. Chrysler defended itself, saying that the complaint was "without merit" because the ad campaign -- which famously kicked off with a Super Bowl ad that starred rapper Eminem -- featured the Chrysler 200, which is made in Detroit.
So for his big I-love-Detroit push, his campaign not only picked a Canadian-made Chrysler, but one that's been a particular sore point for critics because of the company implying it was built in Detroit when it wasn't. Classic. How much does it matter? Meh, who knows.
I suppose we should cut the guy some slack. It's not easy to pretend to be sincere about things. First he was telling Detroit to go to hell, now he's their bestest friend. After they finish voting I'm sure he'll be back to telling them to go to hell again.
But it'd be nice to drag this whole silly thing out as long as possible, so please Support Operation Hilarity!
