First, a little background: someway, somehow I was added to the email list for the Republican Party of Sarasota County. I've asked a total of 3 times to be removed, both by emailing the spammer, one Joe Gruters, the Chairman of the Republican Party of Sarasota, or RPOS for short. No dice. I even reported him to the FTC's anti-spam group, but again I still receive missives from this group. (My favorite, and this is no joke: An invitation to the Herman Cain "Statesman of the Year" dinner - for a mere $1000 I could have had my picture taken with Statesman Cain himself!)
So I decided to just lump it, and wait for the day where perhaps some little nugget came in that the DKos community could help me with.
I think that day has come. An urgent plea for help has come from the Republican Party of Sarasota County, and we, the Kossacks, are uniquely qualified to give them the help they truly need and deserve.
See how you can help the Republican Party - under the fold.
First, here's the email.
Hi Douglas R,
That's not even my friggin' name in any way shape or form. These guys are so stupid.
Hi Douglas R,
Some of our fellow Florida Republicans need our help!
There is a run-off election in the ultra-liberal city of Gainesville, FL. Most of the local Gators on our list can vouch for the city's left leanings. Republicans are outnumbered by a 3 to 1 ratio but the Republican in the Gainesville City Commission run-off can win with our help.
We need 45 minutes of your time. You can help from your own home and be part of the team that helps the Republican achieve victory.
We will provide you with a list of 38 Republicans to call and a script to use when you call. If you are willing to help us defeat a Liberal and elect the Conservative, please email me: Joe@SarasotaGOP.com and I will provide you with the call list & script.
Thank you for your time and willingness to be informed & engaged,
Joe Gruters
Chairman, Republican Party of Sarasota County
Won't you please help Joe "defeat a Liberal and elect the Conservative?" Just email Joe, tell him you received his urgent need for a help from a friend on his list, and you want to help in any way you can. Then you can get the phone list, call the voters, and sway them in the right direction. Perhaps some Floridian Kossacks can even provide some extra talking points, as I am not familiar with the nuances of the race in question.
In case you're not convinced, Joe also included a further plea from the Alchua County GOP Chairman Stafford Jones:
A Message From Alachua County GOP Chairman Stafford Jones
Friends, we need your help.
We have a run-off election for an at-large seat on the Gainesville City Commission on February 28th. In Alachua County, as a whole, Republicans are outnumber by Democrats by a little less than 2 to 1, but in the City of Gainesville, we are outnumbered by 3 to 1.
Still, we have as great a shot at taking an at-large seat as we have ever had. The local Democratic Party is in disarray, and democratic voters are so unhappy with their extreme progressive policies that their vote is extremely fractured.
There is a really great Republican that made this run-off to challenge a Democrat that lost a district seat last year (to a Republican), and now wants to revive his horrid political career by getting back on this Gainesville City Commission via this at-large seat.
We are making phone calls at our headquarters and distributing call lists and scripts so that people can call from home. We have a lot of phone calls to make before the 28th.
We have a favor to ask, andwe wouldn't be asking if we didn't think that your help would make a difference.
Will you, our fellow Chairmen, State Committeemen and State Committeewomen consider taking one page from our call list and a script? One page is just 38 Republican voters. It is taking us 45 minutes or less to get through one page. If most of you take one page, that will propel us way past where we would like to be on phone calls.
Thanks, so much, for your consideration. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Stafford Jones
Republican Chairman, Alachua County
It's time to get involved! Wish I could help ol' Joe out, but I am under deadline - but I hope someone here will pitch in! This could be delicious in so many ways....if you do decide to participate, please post your stories in the comments section.
