...Paul Babeu, appears to be just another self loathing right wing gay man. In an article on the Arizona Republics website titled, Article's claim: Babeu threatened ex-lover, details how Babeu is accused of trying to silence an ex-lover. A male ex-lover.
Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong about being gay. But Paul Babeu is one of those right wing ideologues that will stand with even the bigots for political gain.
Here's a key quote from the article:
In the New Times article, the man describes an ongoing romantic relationship that ended after he saw what he said was Babeu's profile on a gay dating website. The article included photos, including some that appeared to be of Babeu shirtless, and described other, more revealing photos.
When will politicians ever learn that sharing their intimate details online is not the smartest move for their political career?
I haven't liked this guy since he appeared with Jeff Flake at a summer 2009 town hall. You all remember the Tea Party town halls of the summer of 2009? Sure you do!
From the Phoenix New Times article:
[Jose's lawyer] says she spoke directly to the sheriff's lawyer, DeRose, about the Babeu camp's threats that Jose could be deported if he "revealed the relationship." She says DeRose falsely claimed that Jose's visa had expired.
Informed of the situation, Nancy-Jo Merritt, a longtime Phoenix immigration attorney, says such a threat would be indicative of an "atmosphere that's been created politically in this state, so that if you get angry at someone who is Hispanic, you immediately jump down to the level of threatening to deport him.
"If what [Babeu's attorney] says is correct [about Jose's being illegal], either the sheriff had a long relationship with someone he knew was undocumented, while all the time being Mr. Bluster about the border and using it for political gain," or he threatened to deport someone he just broke up with, Merritt says.
"That's just the worst kind of hypocrisy."
She adds that federal immigration-enforcement agents have better things to do than "take care of Babeu's boyfriends."
