8:14 PM PT (Steve Singiser): We are sure you were wondering which "some dude" emerged in Mississippi for the right to take on Republican Sen. Roger Wicker. His name is … well … Al Gore. Obviously, not the Al Gore, but a local Democratic party chair and army vet. He won the light-turnout Democratic primary with 55 percent of the vote.
8:23 PM PT (Steve Singiser): We might have a cliffhanger tonight, after all! As Alabama continues to report, Mitt Romney has benefited from a bit of a surge in the Mobile area. He has no chance of victory, but he is starting to breathe down Newt Gingrich's neck for second place. What was a 5000+ vote margin is now down to 1300 votes, with 84 percent reporting.
8:27 PM PT (Steve Singiser): And, late in the game, our final closely contested race has been called. In AL-06 (Birmingham suburbs), incumbent Republican Rep. Spencer Bachus has won his primary, with 58 percent of the vote. A pretty weak showing, but good enough to move on to November, where he will be heavily favored in this uber-red district over Democrat Penny Bailey.
8:50 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Last week, when Barack Obama took a bare majority in Oklahoma, despite being mixed in with a variety of "some dudes", it actually became marginally big news. A few political yakkers, mostly on the right, insisted that Obama's percentage tonight was a "stat to watch." In Alabama, at least, Obama cruised to a win with 81 percent of the vote. 19 percent selected "uncommitted."
10:03 PM PT (James L): For me, it's not about the delegates... it's about the lulz, and tonight delivered on the latter big time. The DKE crew is hitting the hay for the night, but you're free to stick around and discuss the results of Hawaii's caucus, which should be coming in sometime after 3am Eastern. Otherwise, see you in Puerto Rico!
