I Contest House Resolution 609, 2012:
Recognizing May 3, 2012, as the "National Day of Prayer" in Pennsylvania.
While this resolution is fast tracked as non controversial, I present serious serious matters that bring the true matter of controversy to light.
Point One: this is an action of state which lends state credibility to a business of religion. Lending state credibility to a religion business is tantamount to respecting an establishment of religion, an act which violates Amendment One of the United States constitution.
Point Two: not every citizen of Pennsylvania prays to a super natural agent. Roughly fifteen percent of Pennsylvania citizens rely upon themselves and reach within themselves and without to their family members and friends for any additional support or guidance required to meet any situation. To honor these stalwart citizens, we must also hold a national day of non prayer.
Point Three: in the resolution itself, it is stated that "This nation was founded by single-minded men and women who sought wisdom through prayer". This ignores the founders who did not pray to a super natural agent. These central figures in the founding of our nation, like the stalwart Pennsylvania citizens who rely upon themselves, did not pray for wisdom but earned wisdom and learned wisdom and held it within themselves. We dishonor those founders by disregarding their character, even their being.
House Resolution 609, 2012 is controversial.
House Resolution 609, 2012 violates the constitution of the United States.
