Just got this from the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, and I am reprinting it here in its entirety:
"Dear Fellow Abolitionists,
Timothy Shaun Stemple is set to be executed in Oklahoma on Thursday evening, March 15, 2012 for a crime he maintains he did not commit - the murder of his wife Trisha Stemple in February 1998. Detailed background information may be found here: http://www.freeshaun.com/
Forensic scientists are prepared to testify that Trisha Stemple's injuries are consistent with the blunt force trauma typically seen when a person is hit by a car, and not consistent with what they would be if a person is intentionally struck more than 20 times with a baseball bat. There is further concern that the baseball bat presented as evidence in this case had no blood or other forensic material sufficient for DNA testing, and was found weeks after Trisha Stemple's death in a location inconsistent and incompatible with the claims of the single witness in the case. There was enough doubt raised in this case for the life insurance company to pay the additional benefits due when death is accidental, and there is enough doubt raised in this case to warrant a new and thorough review of the evidence.
Yesterday in Oklahoma City, NCADP Board Member Bud Welch joined with members of the Oklahoma Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty in a press conference calling for a stay and detailing compelling reasons to not go forward with the execution. Read more about that here.
Please Sign The Petition And Then Call Governor Fallin at +405-521-2342 to ask her to stay the execution of Shaun Stemple.
Join us in seeking a stay of execution so that evidence which has never been presented in court can be fully evaluated.
This petition simply asks for a stay of execution pending a full evaluation of evidence and testimony of experts which has not yet been heard in court.
Unless she acts first, this petition will be delivered to Governor Mary Fallin in the early afternoon on March 15, 2012. Please click here to sign by 12pm Central Daylight Time on Thursday, March 15, 2012.
Thank you."
