Alright, I'm not a woman. I lack certain lady-parts that really qualify me for really talking with any authority on women's health. I can sure get angry when some asshat politicians try to pass a bill that will defund an organization that helped provide for the MANY women who took care of me throughout my life. What's better, I can even sign petitions, and share a link or two to those petitions with a body of like-minded individuals who will probably sign and share it with an exponentially expanded group of like-minded individuals, and so on.
Here's the petition link to Stop Arizona HB 2800 to protect women's health, but I've got more below the fold if you're interested.
First off, I want to point out a WaPo blog article that outlines what Planned Parenthood actually does, specifically this paragaph near the end:
The fight also isn’t about cutting spending. The services Planned Parenthood provides save the federal government a lot of money. It’s somewhat cold to put it in these terms, but taxpayers end up bearing a lot of the expense for unintended pregnancies among people without the means to care for their children. The same goes for preventable cancers and sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS. You can find a lot more information about Planned Parenthood and its services here.
Yes, the
asshairs that go on about reducing federal spending are willing to ignore the tons of money that Planned Parenthood to end a service that accounts for less than 5% of their total business.
