The Daily Bucket is a place where we post and exchange our observations about what is happening in the natural world in our neighborhood. Bugs, buds, birds - each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
Gooseville, WI
I met a small visitor on my porch deck. We shared the old weathered park bench for a long moment while we quietly studied each other. I marveled at the dappled application of his chameleon color choice for this setting. I might call the color that he chose to wear, park bench perfection. He then ignored me.
The Eastern Gray Treefrog (Hyla versicolor) changes from gray to green with the slightest temperature change or by the various colors of the substrate surface he clings upon. They all have a small white spot hung below each eye and a smear of bright yellow marking their inner thighs.
I love the large pronounced toe pads that serve as his suction cups to walk up my garden wall or peer in my glass window. The latter makes my small visitor a local peeping Tom.
The call of my peeping Tom.
