Hi Kossaks, I would really appreciate some support in this effort. Watching Hardball tonight upset me so much that I immediately shot off the below letter to the editor to the Sentinel, and then emailed the publisher and the gen manager.
First my LTE and below the orange curlicue of doom is what I added in to the emails to the publisher and Gen Mgr:
This evening 3/28/12 on Hardball with Chris Matthews was the Chairman of the Florida GOP to discuss why our voting laws have been rolled back to suppress minority, elderly and youth vote.
His claim: That voter registration forms must be turned in within 48hrs or face steep fines, was simply good governance. It is in fact nothing but a poll tax.
When asked why the Florida GOP lessened early voting by 6 days from 14 to 8 days now, his claim was that Supervisors of elections complained that they needed the last 2 days prior to the general election to prepare for it.
It is now incumbent upon the Orlando Sentinel to 1: Question why did the republicans select an arbitrary 48hrs to turn in registrations and then assess a heavy fine when they knew the combination would immediately decrease new voter registration?
2: Ask every Elections Supervisor in every one of our 67 counties if they complained to the legislature of needing early voting cut down and what was their reason.
The Orlando Sentinel then needs to publish this information on the Front Page and take it to the Legislature for answers if these supervisors responses don't jibe with the head republican tonight.
I will be reading. And waiting for my answers. If this newspaper refuses to take on this issue, it is silently complicit in suppressing our democratic right to vote and in the slow dismantling of our democracy for the benefit of the wealthy few.

Dear Gentlemen:
Following is a letter to the editor that I just submitted. I would very much like to see it in print, but even more, I would like the Orlando Sentinel to have its journalists do their job and get the answers I am asking for and to also ask Rick Scott why he signed such an egregious bill knowing that it would almost totally eliminate all voter registration drives and disenfranchise millions of Floridians, like me, who take advantage of early voting.
I will also be publishing a copy of this letter on The Daily Kos, where I will encourage my fellow Kossaks to follow up with you and your staff in order to get to the bottom of this issue.

Resident of Winter Park,
Notice, I tried not to make it a dem vs republican issue even though the implication is that it is democratic voters being disenfranchised. But please help me keep the pressure on the Sentinel Kossaks if you can. I will republish tomorrow if I've fallen off the little listy thing on front page. Hopefully the suggestion of bombardment by Kossaks will light a fire under their asses!
Peace!
