I am a woman. I work outside my home. And I am a mom.
Ann Romney does not speak for me.
How often has Ann had to make harried arrangements for someone else to pick up the kids because she couldn't leave work?
How often has Ann slammed out another hour staring at a spreadsheet, then still had to go home to make dinner, lunches for the next day, start a load of laundry and find energy to be "mommy"?
How often has Ann stayed up all night with a sick child, and still had to go to work the next morning?
How often has Ann had wish she could just have a day off, just one? And maybe a pedicure?
How often has Ann had to go into her boss, and ask to leave early one more time for any one of the multitude of occasions the kids were sick or there was a school event, and suffered that fear of disapproval?
How often has Ann had to figure out a way to carve yet another three hours a week into an already full schedule for an extracurricular activity for the kids, much less tried to figure out how to pay for it?
How often has Ann had to worry about the quality of the education of her children, because all she could afford was the crappy public school even though she's working her ass off?
It's unfortunate that Rosen gave them that little sound byte:
"Ann has never worked a day in her life"
to feed to the stay at home moms. Being a mom is tough, and that's a real insult.
But I know Rosen didn't mean it like that at all. I live that life. And Ann Romney doesn't know squat about what it's like for me.
Being a MOM is tough. But being a WORKING MOM is tougher.
Ann Romney does not speak for me.
