Even Rick Santorum's Etch-A-Sketches are small (Robert Galbraith/Reuters)
Wait, I thought conservatives were supposed to be against
grading on a curve:
“We feel good that we’re going to have a good result here in Wisconsin — we’re going to have a strong showing, maybe even sneak in and have an upset,” Santorum said from Green Bay, Wis., in an interview with Fox News. “But either way, we’ll have a strong showing in the face of obviously overwhelming money and overwhelming establishment support [for Romney].”
Memo to Rick Santorum: This isn't
Bush v. Gore—if you lose, you can't say that you won. Sure, it's true that Romney should be blowing Rick Santorum out of the water. Santorum is
a really crappy candidate. He's got no business winning states by 23 points this late in the primary season. So when Santorum says Republicans aren't enthusiastic about Mitt Romney, he's right. Still, when Santorum says
he can win the nomination even if he loses Wisconsin, Maryland, and D.C., he's on crack. And that's a good thing, because no matter how hopeless Santorum's prospects may be, the longer he stays in the race, the harder it's going to be for Romney to Etch-A-Sketch his way out of the right-wing positions he's embraced during the six years he's been running for president.
