I don't think that the national press paid much attention to the War On Women Rallies this Saturday. We have Republicans who are part of the Tea Party Wing, who got elected to various positions. Governors, State Reps. and Senators. A whole bunch of them went to Washington. They were suppose to be there to create jobs and protect Medicare. Instead, they are spending their time going after Planned Parenthood. Trying to take away birth control from women. Passing laws that involve vaginal probes.
Women are losing access to health care. And oh! Medicare? They have to cut it back to save it. And then give the savings to the wealthiest people, as tax cuts. The deficit? Whatever!
Women are fighting back and what do we get? A collective yawn. If we can't get coverage, at least we have sites like the Daily Kos. So, I wanted to post something.
I went up to Austin with some friends to at least do something about the War On Women. Am I glad I went! It was like a girl's day out. We had an absolutely great time. Thanks Linda, Mary, and Susan. I haven't laughed so much in ages. Have you ever noticed that liberal Texas women's sense of humor is something wicked?
When we got there we found about 2000 like minded souls. Women AND men. People of all ages, from kids to grannies. All ethnic groups. Check out this slide show of the rally:

Lloyd Doggett spoke. A Reverend Rigby talked about the four F's. Two were focus and family. Dawna Dukes was on fire. Lots more.
We have a Ron Paul or Ronulan there. He had this big sign that was anti-woman. And he stood in a very visible place. People were running over to him to cover his sign with their signs. He was bouncing around to be seen, but eventually gave up.
There were also some anti-abortion people. They wanted to be part of the event, but was very firmly told NO. They then just stood there.
All in all the people were nice. Like minded. People were energized. I think that we have reached a tipping point in the state. There are already plans for an even bigger rally for the next session.
We got back real late, but it was worth it! These people were put on notice that we are going to stand up to their bullying. That this isn't just about them.
I was at an event with Paul Sadler April 14th. This is the video I took where he spoke on Texas is going to woman up! Here's the clip:
