If there were only a hundred million humans,
or a few hundred millions,
everyone could live in the country.
Imagine the countryside,
imagine the hard work.
Imagine the internet,
and the phones,
but not the cities.
Imagine wind and solar,
on a small scale,
since all we'd need
is a small scale,
just a little bit
of everything we need.
Imagine,
daydream,
think of your goats,
and your goat milk,
and your goat cheese.
Think of the days,
many of them full of hard work,
many of them not.
Think of your livestock,
keeping you busy,
keeping you in tune with the days,
and the nights.
Think of your government,
made up of small meetings,
and whatever is decided,
is carried out,
right then.
No jails,
just exile or death
for those with very bad habits,
like rape or murder.
Look at the stars,
so brilliant at night,
with no city lights
to haze them out.
What can we do?
We need to have children,
not one child per couple,
but one child in five couples,
for a hundred years.
And there can never be
any group
with a birth rate of four,
doubling themselves,
and taking over the world from the rest.
Not Irishmen,
not Kenyans,
not Swedes,
not any group.
A careful balance
would need to prevail,
as long as ethnic pride exists.
For one thousand years,
that's as far as I care to think.
That's not true;
I think farther ahead,
but I need to take my daydreams
one millennium at a time.
Thanks for reading.
