Many of you have asked and asked about remote phone banking as a way, other than contributions, to help us recall Scott Walker.
Today, at my phone banking shift for We Are Wisconsin, I asked the coordinator who didn't know, then she asked someone else and....voila, you can! Frankly, they were shocked and amazed that we have so much nationwide support here on Daily Kos that people actually want to take time out to help. They were also very happy.
Go here and on the upper left hand side of the page click on TAKE ACTION: Help Recall Walker from Home which will bring up a pop up that you click on.
I didn't go farther, not wanting to set up an account and start using it (sorry, I just finished a phone banking shift), so I hope to see reports in the comments on how things worked and went.
Being the AFL-CIOs website, you will likely be talking to union households.
A few rules, though, under the cheese doodle.
Puddy's Phone Banking Rules.
1. Be polite and don't argue. We're a very friendly and polite state. Being unpleasant, forgetting the three most important words in the English language ("please" and "thank you") might lose us a potential vote. Arguing with people who have already made up their minds just isn't worth it, frays your nerves, and the person on the other end of the phone just enjoys wasting your time and keeping you from other calls.
2. Be aware of the time. We're on Central Time here so watch carefully that you don't call after 8 PM Central Time and try to avoid dinner time also. Calls between 10 AM and 8 PM (Central Time - remember) are the usual times for us.
3. Always introduce yourself. "Hi, my name is Sue and I'm calling...." It starts the conversation nicely and sets a good tone.
4. Quit when you're cranky or tired. Phone banking for the sake of making calls isn't the point. It's reaching out to people to ask for support. You may not realize how you sound when you're cranky or tired, but the person you call will.
Only 4 rules. Easy.
Sorry to post and run, but I need some dinner before I set off for the Overpass Light Brigade action tonight.
4:25 PM PT: If you need a script, try this:
Hi, I'm ____ and we're calling union households about the June 5 recall election. We hope we can count on your vote for Tom Barrett for Governor and Mahlon Mitchell for Lt. Governor. Every vote in this election is important.
After that, chat as you please. Hope this helps.
