Lou Engle is planning a major TheCall rally in Northern Virginia later this month. Specifically, for Fredericksburg on May 26 at the Fredericksburg Expo Center.
Here's the official trailer:
Notice that Engle left out one pretty major "shift" that took place in Virginia. It was the second of the original 13 states (after Rhode Island) to guarantee full religious freedom. Apparently that little fact is lost on Engle, since if he had his way the First Amendment would go straight to the shredder.
Engle, for those who don't know, is one of the rising stars of the religious right. We were first introduced to him in "Jesus Camp." He's also one of the main leaders in the New Apostolic Reformation, a fascistic offshoot of the religious right that believes it can actually bring about the Second Coming by taking over the world. He's already collected one pretty big endorsement for his rally--from Pat Robertson. He appeared on yesterday's 700 Club to hype up the rally, and Robertson later recorded a video giving the rally his blessing.
Engle's teaming up with a new fundie outfit called Awaken the Dawn--in fact, his rally is being held in conjunction with an annual Awaken the Dawn conference. The list of speakers includes several people with ties to the International House of Prayer, led by prominent NAR "apostle" Mike Bickle. Also there is Patrick Mahoney, whom many of you should remember from the Terri Schiavo affair.
Those of you in Northern Virginia, be ready for a major invasion of lunacy on Memorial Day weekend.
