Everyday, I see news, stories, anecdotes, etc, of a segment of this country attempting to do things which any civilized person would consider evil and resolutely reject.
Voting against marriage equality in the year 2012, not 1912 or even 1982? Check.
Attempting to constantly inject their own perverted form of religion into the governance of this nation? Check.
Doing everything they can to weaken environmental protections, in many cases actively hating the environment in which they and their children live? Check.
Rallying against Social Security and Medicare and/or voting for people who are committed to destroying these bedrock programs, even though many of these right-wingers are themselves on these programs or have family being kept alive/afloat by them? Check.
Railing against unions, and against middle-class union members being greedy for making $45,000/year, while screaming about the "soaking" of the rich apparently as a result of the rich having the lowest tax rates in decades, DESPITE the fact that 99.9% of those screaming will never be rich enough to benefit from huge tax cuts, and don't know anybody who would? Check.
Supporting wars of aggression by the United States, often with complete disregard for who is harmed or killed, on either side? Check.
Claiming that some children born in the United States are not citizens of this nation, despite the absolutely crystal clear language of the 14th Amendment, through the tortured twisting of that language? Check.
Sheer, unadulterated racism? Check.
Denial of evolution? Check.
Hating birth control as immoral and wanting to deny access to it, even though tens of millions of right-wing women themselves use it? Check.
Wanting to completely ban abortion without exceptions, even though undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of right-wing women get abortions every year (out of some 1.4M abortions per year in the US, you can't tell me that all, or even 75% are "liberal" women having the procedure)? Check.
Railing against US government student loan programs, when countless millions of right-wingers themselves have student loan debt through the federal government? Check.
Voting for the policies and people who created the current economic crisis and the long-term destruction of the middle-class in this country, then frothing at the mouth when even minor steps are made to stop the trend, even though many of the right-wingers themselves have been seriously harmed by the right-wing policies they loudly advocate? Check.
Convince me right-wingers aren't evil. Seriously. And I'm not talking about right-wing politicians - their evil is beyond objective denial. I am talking about your neighbors, your family members, your coworkers, your fellow alumni, the jackoff in traffic with a "Who is John Galt?" bumper sticker on his 1992 Ford Escort; all of these people are evil in my mind, for the reasons listed above. Yes, they are macro, stereotypical reasons, but tell me the right-wingers you know don't share many, if not all, of the listed beliefs/traits.
And before the excuse is made of "ignorance," I don't buy that. We live in the age of nytimes.com, google, cnn.com, even foxnews.com (which can have snippets of truth in between loads of bullshit) - any ignorance on political matters is 100% a conscious decision on their part.
Finally, I also don't buy the argument that right-wingers may be good people because they disagree with certain aspects of the conservative movement's plan for our country. For example, a pro-choice Republican, a gay Republican, a Republican who disagrees with prominent right-wing politicians. But guess what? When it gets down to crunch time in the voting booth, they will invariably pull the lever for that Republican politician. Invariably. That is why I can't compartmentalize and say that a right-winger, even a family member, isn't evil. I feel about them somewhat like the wingnuts say they feel about gay and lesbian Americans - "love the sinner, hate the sin." They may be a "selfless person," but I still think they are evil. Convince me they're not.
