I originally wrote this diary some months ago for use on a night when no diarist was available. It looks like tonight is the night! ::smile:: I hope you find it interesting!
But First, A Word From Our Sponsor:

We all have times when 'news' tends to overwhelm us with negativity, with depressing trends ... times when it feels like 'the bad guys' are winning ...
So what do we do in those times? Do we act? Do we react? How do we go forward? Or do we go forward? Not all do, you know. I've witnessed way too much of THAT in my state the past few weeks! :( I won't miss their presence in this area. And my sympathies to our Floridian siblings. (The last two sentences were originally written after the South Carolina GOP primary, when the zoo moved south to Florida.)
Of course, free will says we're free to do whatever we wish, on those occasions, and anytime, really. But if you're open to a simple suggestion for coping with such occasions, please consider this.
I've done diaries about love before, as for me the greatest political power stems from it, and SHOULD stem from it. This is another diary in that vein.
A website I found posted '60 Tiny Love Stories To Make You Smile.' I found a number of them to be uplifting and rejuvenating, and I hope you are able to check them out. Maybe you will find some which provide you with encouragement and sunshine. But one among them I want to share explicitly and directly, as it really touches me. It's a story of brilliant brotherly love told by a surgeon.
Today, I operated on a little girl. She needed O- (O-negative) blood. We didn’t have any, but her twin brother has O- blood. I explained to him that it was a matter of life and death. He sat quietly for a moment, and then said goodbye to his parents. I didn’t think anything of it until after we took his blood and he asked, “So when will I die?” He thought he was giving his life for hers. Thankfully, they’ll both be fine.
So simply and so quickly did this young fellow agree to give his life so his sister might live.
There's no faking a love like that, an honesty like that and a willingness to give one's life for the sake of a loved one. I will never lose hope for a species capable of that. My species. And yours. Ours.
What kind of world can we build expressing love and compassion like that? I think there are no limits.
On to tonight's comments, graciously assembled and formatted by brillig!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything
without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do
not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From expatjourno:
A comment from Stuart Heady on the need for optimism no matter how dark the reality.
From captainlaser:
Westy Parnes channels his inner Beatles.
From BeninSC:
Melanie in IA had a fine comment on managing perfectionist tendencies when trying to accomplish a goal. Then Lonely Texan (the GUS diary's author) rephrases the view in a way that had even Melanie applauding!
gulfgal98 made a great comment about collaborative thinking as opposed to jealous, competitive thinking of the sort conservatives would and do promote.
That comment may be found in angelajean's fine rec list diary on flaws in our educational system.
