I am sitting here with a friend who just asked me, "Would it be possible to blink, and the election would be over? I don't want to hear these ads for the next five months." Boy, you're not kidding. I am tired of it, too.
Politicians at the state and national level create a picture. The picture lets the voter know what the politician thinks will win votes. Romney constantly reinforces why I have serious issues with his integrity as a politician and as a human being.
My latest issue has to do with his wife, Multiple Sclerosis and dressage. I have Multiple Sclerosis and am very crippled by it physically. It turns out that riding horseback is helpful as a form of therapy for MS. However, buying a horse and maintaining it for a tax write-off of over $70,000 in a single year is NOT therapy for MS. If Mrs. Romney was training and riding the horse herself, that would be therapeutic. Owning it does not do anything for her physical condition.
Dressage is a sport that involves a great deal of money. You have to have a horse capable of being trained that looks good enough to compete. You have to be able to care for the animal, and that takes plenty of money. You have to have the funds to transport everyone to competitions. I think you get the picture. It is a pastime for the extremely wealthy.
I have no idea what it means to be wealthy. While I don't have to worry about paying for food and living staples at the grocery store, everything else has to be considered as a questionable expense. In other words, I have a budget that is limited by income. That's not a problem. I know there are plenty of people who don't eat because they have no money. They are usually people without credit, so there is no charging something. These people just go hungry. I don't have to go hungry, but I still have to think about what I spend.
People who earn $250,000 or more a year are a lot better off than I am. They can buy a lot more without thinking about it, but they still have think about spending money at a certain level. People in this bracket can't just buy a house without considering how it will affect their finances. They have their limits.
However, there are some people who have no real limitations. "I really like that house on the beach; I think I'll buy it." "I have always wanted a Mercedes Benz. I also like to have a dark colored car for the winter, so it will be warmer and a light one for the summer, so it will be cooler. I'll take two." These are people who have no idea how the rest of us live.
To be sure, there have been very wealthy people who have occupied the office of the presidency, but they had a feeling for people, and they were able to reach out to them and make the connection. Romney is not capable of that. He has no idea how to touch people. Even those who plan on voting for him don't really like him. They just like the idea of lower taxes or whatever else he is promising that they think will benefit them.
So I have a message for Mr. Romney. Mr. Romney, I'm not buying what you're selling. I can't afford it.
