We have suffered over four years of childish name-calling and delegitimizing of OUR PRESIDENT. The worst I have seen in my (fairly long already) lifetime. We have endured the chants that he is not even American. Meanwhile Eric Cantor shorts our entire way of life to make a few grand!
Two days ago we were treated to the fox and friends and the five and limbaugh (caps omitted intentionally). bloviating and lying and crying, that OUR PRESIDENT hates America, and hates all she stands for, simply because he communicated the factual point that anyone who is a success in this country does not do it by himself. Small businesses, large businesses, entrepreneurs, folks with great ideas that they bring to market and successful fruition; all must utilize our system of commerce, our roads and bridges, our marketing vehicles, our economy, our citizens, our banks, our FEDERAL reserve notes, etc etc etc. (ie: The Capitalist resources of the greatest country on the planet), to make their fortunes.
This is not Socialism. THIS IS CAPITALISM. THIS IS FACT. Throughout history, Capitalism has made fortunes, and people have given back to their country...or at least they didn't pretend they were all by themselves, making it all by themselves, in some nether-country that was their very own; rather than in the country of their residence, the land they supposedly love. The people who put plaster of paris in loaves of bread faded out generations ago. Why would anyone want to go back to those days? Leave that to the Russians and the Chinese and their nascent Capitalism.
(Meanwhile, Mitt's favorite snack, Nutella, is an Italian product, dinged by a false advertising lawsuit.)
Please read more past the little hypnotic orange squiggle, brought to you by Nutella and Monsanto...
Yesterday, we were forced to endure this, from John Sununu:
“I wish this president would learn how to be an American”
(In addition to a few other ugly comments about President Obama.)
He was forced to walk it back to this:
“the American formula for creating business is not to have the government create business,” but to “create a climate in which entrepreneurs could thrive. … If I didn’t give all that detail, I apologize.”
(Note the classic GOP apology, which is preceded by an "if" statment, so that the offense is either based entirely on the erroneous reaction of the listener, or is rescindable altogether.)
Typically, his explanation of what he supposedly meant is exactly what President Obama was saying in his speech which drew all the ire in the first place! (It is taking all of my willpower at this point to refrain from calling Sununu an asshole). (oops).
Of course, Sununu dragged the typical, tired false equivalents out of his closet, about Mitt's possible felonious assault on the SEC filing being the same as Obama's connection to Tony Rezko. (WTF??? Ok, sure. I'm an utterly stupid typical Amurrkan citizen, John; so tell me another line of bullshit.)
When someone drags out the false equivalents, you can tell immediately that it is the only ammunition they've got. So they use it. We can't fault them for it, really. After all, it's un-Amurrkan to leave one in the chamber.
The fallout from Sununu's garbage masquerading as surrogacy was truly lovely to see.
Sununu sort-of apologized, and definitely walked back his statement.
In addition, iron-jawed Tim Pawlenty was forced to explain, walk back, soften, and mitigate the meaning of Sununu's words.
After 4 years of Obama being treated like Der Chef himself (the nukular weapon of choice in political battle since the 1940s), have we finally grown sick and tired and utterly intolerant of this garbage about our President?
The GOP is allegedly running a campaign now. They are at least admitting President Obama is an American, (although they are claiming he needs to learn how to be like one, and to learn how American business operates). They are calling him a Crony Capitalist, but at least they are now saying he is a Capitalist, rather than a Socialist!
They are now forced to apologize and walk back and explain themselves when they make outrageous ridiculous statements full of ad hominem attacks against our President.
Their research (I am assuming Romney's campaign is at least doing research and polling) must be telling them that such attacks will not fly in this election season.
Certainly, the GOP has made it their stated and published policy that Obama must fail (collateral damage be damned), and even some of the GOP has a fully-vested financial stake in the failure of our economy and way of life (hello Mr. Cantor)...
...But have we turned a corner in the tolerance of the stupid personal attacks? For goodness sake, the man has been our president for almost four years now. He is an American. He is our president. He came in on an electoral mandate, faced with the worst economy since the 1930s, and he was 1000% impeded by the GOP at every turn, beyond all reasonable bounds, from before he ever took the oath of office (delivered erroneously by John Roberts, BTW).
Have the great middle, the independents in our country had enough of the attacks against their President?
Have we turned a corner, finally, in what is tolerable?
I think we have. The GOP seems to be operating like a cornered rat.
You should leave the ad hominem insane attacks to the fat guy hopped up on viagra and synth heroin, John. Leave that stuff to the experts.
