It's no wonder Kelda Roys' campaign has gotten so negative over the past week...
State Representative Mark Pocan's campaign to represent the 2nd Congressional District raised $250,000 in the last full quarter before the August 14th primary, out-pacing the nearest opponent, Kelda Helen Roys, whose campaign raised $128,000. Pocan accepted more than 4,500 contributions from more than 3,300 donors over the course of his campaign, and 97 percent of donations came from individuals.
"I am truly grateful to the outpouring of support from the District 2 community," stated Pocan, "I've met and talked to voters from Beloit to Baraboo, and it's clear my message of progressive values with real results resonates with people."
Pocan's campaign maintained a high level of grassroots engagement, with nearly 80 percent of donations given in increments of $100 or less. The campaign now has over $450,000 cash on hand. Pocan's candidacy has been endorsed by 26 unions as well as the Clean Wisconsin Action Fund, Fair Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans and hundreds of local elected officials and grassroots supporters.
As I've written before, the fact that Kelda Roys' campaign took a turn towards the very negative over the past week seemed to bode ill of her chances of beating Mark Pocan on August 14, and these latest fundraising numbers just underscore that point.
Kelda Roys' Congressional campaign is in trouble, and considering how negative her rhetoric has become, she runs the very real risk of doing irreparable (or at least very serious) harm to her reputation and standing among progressives here in Wisconsin.
