I am a veteran, as well as my husband, cousins, a few uncles and such. Today, my heart breaks for the loss of 6,503 lives to the fighting in the deserts of Afghanistan, Iraq and the sands in between. I believe in God, Duty, Country. I also believe we have had enough of this killing and loss of our American Military to a fight I have never believed in.
When GWB attacked Baghdad, I was shocked and angered at the audacity of his military administrators for the unjust attacks on a sovereign nation who posed no harm to the USA. I stood back and waited to be proven wrong, to be shown the WMD's stacked high in the warehouses our military bombed... still waiting. No Bin Laden, no smoking gun was found, not in Iraq.
Bin Laden was destroyed by SEAL Team 6, God Bless SEAL Team 6 for doing so. My question is now, why are we still sacrificing American Military lives in this region? Can there be a reason for the continued carnage we are engaged in? Can there be any justification for the maiming of our children in this war? I am sickened by the ongoing pain and suffering spouses, parents, family, and friends must endure and cannot find an answer for their heart break.
Why can't we stop this war? Why must we be the world's military? Why is so much of our GNP invested in the war machine?
I am seeking real answers that can be understood, not the usual political rants of "It's all the ____ (fill in the blank) fault. Real answers, why are we sending our children to fight a war that is not winnable? The U.S.S.R. lost their fight in Afghanistan, and retreated back to their homeland, why are we still there? Didn't we learn anything from our waste of American lives in Vietnam?
Someone out there (in KOS land) must have a reasonable explanation as to why we are still engaged in combat. I am interested in what you have to say. Tell me why we are there, tell me why we don't come home and invest the enormous amounts of defense spending in our own country. Please, I want to know why?
