I wrote this diary yesterday, but I suppose I jumped the gun a little. The crime happened Sunday at 4am and through social media (only one local paper had a blip about it, and then it had not identified it as a hate crime), the city of Lincoln was outraged. A friend of the victim set up a facebook account for a candle light vigil, and less than 18 hours later, 500-1000 QLGBTA and allies were at the state capital to show support. It was a true testament to how social media spreads like a wildfire while the MSM tries to keep up. Well, they caught up today.
CNN picked it up just now, as well as many other nation sites, here and here.
I'm ashamed to see my home for the last 14 years get this negative publicity, but I'm also proud of the QLGBTA community there that rallied at the state capital in less than 24 hours. It was amazing last night.
I also wanted to supply a link for donations for the victim. She does not have health insurance. Here is a link to star city pride. Last night a local club donated all proceeds to the victim (they shut down the show and walked to the capital to attend) and today I see coffee shops with jars all donating here.
I'm not good at diaries, particularly with pictures, but I'm going to try to upload some from last night.
meh, photobucket seems to be cutting all pics off on the right, so click to see better pics. This pic is by far the best picture taken and it's been posted a lot of places (credit to Steve Andel Photography):
These are all mine and that's my kiddo too:
