I get a little (okay, a lot) tired of how many front page stories on dailykos are motivated by pointing out a hypocrisy. Gasp! A candidate said one thing and did / supported / was involved with its opposite. Gasp indeed.
The American public has never demonstrated that it gives a rat's ass about hypocrisy as a trait that will doom a candidate. If anything, it demonstrates a desperate will to win at any cost, which is held in higher esteem than whatever negatives, if any, accrue to being a hypocrite.
Republicans obviously know this, that's why they say whatever the fuck they need to say at a given moment. They know that the majority of the electorate is not keeping track and they also know that the last thing said is what will stick.
They also seem to know that contradicting themselves is a good way of distracting us earnest Democrats (but certainly not the MSM) with the fool's gold of crying hypocrisy! hypocrisy! while they (Republicans) continue on there merry way.
Hypocrisy is nothing more than a diversionary tactic. We would do well to just ignore it, or better, attack the point being made and not the fact that it is hypocritical. Attacking the point being made is newsworthy because it is CURRENT. Attacking the point being made because it doesn't jibe with something the candidate said / did / supported ten or twenty years ago is a losing ambit. The American voter doesn't care.
I would love to see a poll any poll, or polls plural, proving otherwise.
