Aloha,
Voting is underway in the race to replace retiring Hawai'i Sen. Daniel Akaka. Voters are mailing in absentee ballots in advance of the Aug. 11 primary. Early walk-in voting begins on Monday at 8 a.m.
Mazie Hirono's campaign is reaching new heights at just the right time. She followed up recent endorsements by progressive stalwarts MoveOn, Democracy for America, and Daily Kos with a stunning and inspiring endorsement by Republican Congressman Don Young earlier this week:

The fifth and final debate in the Democratic primary will be tonight at 6:30 HST. You can follow along on Twitter with the hashtag #hnndebate:

Hirono is receiving a fortunately timed additional boost with this morning's pending announcement by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that she's leading the race:

Meanwhile, Hirono's primary opponent this morning is strangely (but not atypically) keynoting a meeting of a right-leaning group led by Hawai'i's solitary Republican state senator - and her likely general-election opponent is reportedly convening a "Firearm Coalition" meeting today, less than a week after Aurora.
With the fight to control the U.S. Senate looking tight, the rest of the nation may be staying up late on election night in November to see who wins this race. There's a lot at stake.
Now seems like a great time to jump on the Team Mazie bandwagon!
