How low can they go? Pretty down far own apparently.
This Billboard Says on the Left:
Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out.
And On the Right:
Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize.
My first reaction: "Kills Thousands"? What. The. Holy. Fractoid. Is. That. About?
Apparently this Billboard isn't the work of your usual Obama Derangement Sufferer, this one was put up by a Libertard, um, Liberarian-Leaning organization called the Ralph Sneed Foundation.
According to Boise, Idaho’s KBOI-TV, the billboard is owned by the Ralph Smeed Foundation, a group that says it wants to draw attention the deaths of servicemen and women overseas. Smeed’s website says that he is an 85-year-old Republican activist who has purportedly been described as “the H. L. Menckin (sic) of the West.”
Uh, What?
When I first read this I thought this guy might be making a point about people "freaking out" over just 12 who died in Aurora. Nevermind the other 50 who were wounded. That it was an attempt to minimize that loss compared to something Oama has done, like say, implement hundreds of drone strikes killing unnamed, unknown and unindicted targets as well as hundreds of innocent bystanders nearby in his stealth CIA War on al Qaeda and the Taliba within Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia without the consent of the American people or oversight of Congress.
Even though I vehemently disagree with that sentiment which has been expressed by people such as Glen Greenwald, particularly on the facts and the law in the current post AUMF world, at least it's a fairly logical point of view.
At least that view makes some sense to me.
I disagree with it because No Judge or Jury has EVER had oversight of the President's ability to deploy military force, and they never will. Congress passed the AUMF in 2001 and it authorizes the use of military force anywhere in the world in pursuit of al Qaeda, period.
To authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the recent attacks launched against the United States.
Whereas, the President has authority under the Constitution to take action to deter and prevent acts of international terrorism against the United States
(a) IN GENERAL- That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.
It's under this authority that George W. Bush originally invaded Afghanistan. It's under this authority that Barack Obama escalated that conflict with additional troops, and that he escalated the drone strike program.
In War, there are Casualties, If we don't like it we should Stop the War against Terrorism - or more specifically we should repeal and replace the AUMF - not that I'm holding my breath for that to happen.
But none of that is what this Sneed guy is talking about.
Excuse me, but where was this dimbulb when George W. Bush Invaded the Wrong Fracking Country, one that was Already Disarmed and had Nothing to do with Al Qeada ultimately wasting the lives of over 4,000 of our Troops and untold numbers of Iraqis? Where was he when the Bush Administration just plain lost $12 Billion In Cash somewhere in Iraq?
Yes, you could argue that we've lost far more of our troops in Afghanistan under Obama (1381) than we did under Bush (575). It's also true that Obama Got Osama and Bush didn't. That Obama pulled our Troops out of Iraq, when Bush didn't. That Obama supported the Arab Spring, including the uprisings in not just Egypt, but also Libya which brought down Khaddafi, and is working with the UN to de-escalate the violence in Syria.
But it's madness to argue that he received the Nobel Prize because he did the above, when in fact - he received the Peace Prize First just as Dr. Martin Luther King received it before the Civil Rights Act was passed (the Act passed in July, he received the Prize in December), Lech Walensa received it before Poland was free of the Soviet Union, and the Dalai Lama received it even though Tibet is still oppressed by China.
It's far beyond madness to argue that our current President - while completely ignoring the wrong-headed actions of G.W. Bush - is somehow equal to a crazed mass murderer for what he's done to try and protect America from Terrorists.
That suggestion is just plain Disgraceful and Sick.
Certainly, we may disagree with some of President's tactics in specific, but not with his intent in general.
President Obama, in accordance with the Laws of the Land and the Laws of War, has been trying to protect American Lives, that other guy - whose name I won't dignify with repeating in comparison to the President - was not doing that.
